His firm, Ault, Clark, and Associates, has designed and remodeled many golf courses throughout the U.S. and abroad. Ed was a Washington D. C. native, a graduate of Central High School, and theColumbia Institute of Technology.
He joined Pepco in the mid-1930s and retired in 1959 as a supervisor in the conduit department.
He started his company in1959. Among early associates of the firm were Al Jamison, Dean Beaman, and Algie Pulley. He was a past president of the DistrictGolf Association and a member of theAmerican Society of Golf Course Architects. He was a member of Indian SpringC.C. and had served as Green Chairmanof the Club for many years. Ed was anoutstanding amateur golfer. He hadqualified for two National Amateurs andbeen club champion at Indian Springmany times.
He insisted on having a qualified Superintendent employed during the construction and maintenance of the courses hedesigned. He was an early advocate ofthe stadium or gallery-type course. Early trademarks of his courses' were: largegreens, tees and bunkers, ease of maintenance, playability, and greens plantedto C7, C1, and C19 bentgrasses.
